![]() ![]() I'd used motor oil years ago, but didn't like how the plugs would come out and switched to copper at the suggestion of an independent mechanic. And I use copper anti seize on the threads, which may have a bearing on this (Bosch recommends reducing torque spec by 30% if you use anti-seize compound). I've also read that using compressed air to blow out the bore can blow debris into the engine as well. For instance, I've read that you could leave shavings in the bore which will fall into the combustion chamber. Let's move this to another question: how best to use a thread chaser? Is it even necessary in a head that appears to have no problems? I've read pro and con on this, which is the reason I haven't done it. Agreed? (Mike appears to be right, by the way.) So the correct size long adapter that you need for the M30, based on the actual plug measurement, appears to be 14MM. Understanding the art of the compression check The differential compression check is one of the most useful and telling tricks that mechanics use to diagnose the health of an engine’s cylinders. A quick and easy push pressure release button, easy to use 4. 3' Gauge has dual color scale with 0-300 PSI, 0-20 kPa 3. Designed for checking compression on petrol engine quickly and accurately 2. I opened a new plug and measured across the threads with my digital caliper and the plug measures at 14MM. FAERSI Professional Engine Cylinder Diagnostic Compression Gauge Tester Set Item Feature: 1. It does list a corresponding torque spec of 21 ft.-lbs. The correct Bosch Silber plug, WR 9 LS is listed in the tech info as a 14MM thread, 3/4" reach, 13/16 hex, and extended tip silver plug. The 14MM size more-or-less matches the plug torque spec'd in the Bentley, 19-22 & 15-22 ft.-lbs. The manometer has a measuring range of 0 70 Bar / 0. They show both 14MM and 18MM, amongst others which clearly don't work. The compression tester allows you to easily measure the compression pressure of your diesel vehicle. ![]() I do have a Bosch Spark Plug Technical Information document which lists the various thread sizes and cross-references them to a plug torque. ![]() I don't want to get anything stuck or lost in ANY plug hole! And I am not unable to find where I sourced the 19MM spec from, so, some detective work is in order. ![]()
